Description
Zetland Lifeboat Museum is in the coastal town of Redcar on the North East coast of England. It has the oldest surviving lifeboat in the world named the Zetland. Built by Henry Greathead, of South Shields in 1802, and in service from 1802 to 1864. The name Zetland comes from the local Lord of Manor, the Marquess of Zetland. The building housing the museum is itself a listed building. The townspeople raised £100 to save the lifeboat from being broken up after if was taken out of service.
